Wells is included in the South West Region for European Parliamentary elections. The region covers the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol, and elects seven MEPs on a proportional representation system. Currently, there are 3 Conservatives, 1 Liberal Democrat and 2 UKIP Members of the European Parliament for the South West.

The Conservatives have the largest number of MEPs from any Political Party in the United Kingdom. In Brussels and Strasbourg, the 36 Conservative MEPs are allied to the EPP-ED Group, but strongly oppose the European Constitution.
